I agree
with this statement, “Now, today, like no other time in our past, we have the
opportunity, tools, strategies, techniques, resources, and standards to make
film, the powerful teaching tool Thomas Edison once thought it would be”. In
today’s world we have multiple ways of communicating, and we can use pictures
to tell the message. It’s amazing how media has been able to expand through
technology and the power of the message in a movie through emotions and actions
in the film.
·
I agree
with this statement “When our students are having fun, they are engaged and
they are being educated. Now in their second century, movies deserve a
legitimate place in the classroom and the curriculum, with creative teachers
skillfully employing them to both reach and teach their children”. I can say
being in college most of my teachers will try to give students a classroom
environment a fun-learning atmosphere. The teachers will try to make us engage
in the classroom by creating media and expressing our opinions.
·
I agree
with this statement “Kids love movies! This fact is evident when you tell them
you’re about to show a clip of a movie and the noise level in the classroom
drops immediately”. This is true because I remember in middle school when we
were watching a movie everyone was quiet. It can be a great visual aid for
students who may prefer movies to see what actually is going on to a particular
topic a teacher has gone over or what the author’s main idea was in a
particular story he or she had written.
·
I agree
with this statement “Unfortunately not everyone looks so favorably upon the idea of film
in the classroom”. You will always have a person who will disagree with
technology integrated in the classroom, however I think it can be balanced. If
we learned to balance film in the classroom to traditional then this can help
the teacher adapt to different teaching styles for the individual student’s
learning style.

Kids love
movies! As a child I would always watch movies over a book any day. If a movie
was being played during class, I would watch the movie and analyze it. I would
analyze the movie to understand what the hidden message was saying to the
audience. CI 2300 class has made me realize that there are multiple ways of
learning literacy in a fun way. I do not always having to follow old school
method. Films have always helped me understand the content compare to standard
based text, because I am visual learner. When I cannot visualize what the text
is saying to me, then I stumbled. Since we have films and technology integrated
in class, this gives me an opportunity to learn and explore subjects with great
desire to master a particular skill.
2.
Sometimes
movies can be abused in the classrooms. I have observed some high schools were
teachers use film as a time filler. They would not want to teach a particular subject
and would select a movie that would meet the criteria. It’s one thing to use
technology as a tool and then abuse technology. Teachers should be aware that it’s
best to switch up the lesson plan when using film. For example, Dr. Redmond
would play a video clip and then hit pause to ask questions about the film. If
more teachers follow this method then it can be a great way to get students to
use their literacy skills, mega-cognitive skills and engagement in a classroom.
This method of playing and pausing a film can help teachers interact more with
students and use the movie as a tool instead of replacing film as time filler.
